Job overview
An exciting development opportunity has arisen, ideal for someone looking to further their experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics and wants to pursue a career in surgery. The Trauma and Orthopaedic service is expanding and this is a great opportunity to be surrounded by this development to our service.
This is a vacancy for a FY2 post within Trauma and Orthopaedics. This is a whole-time appointment with an on-call commitment. The post is based at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Day time commitments would give the applicant a broad exposure to trauma and elective orthopaedics.
All emergency surgery cases are admitted to Tunbridge Wells Hospital.
The post-holder will be attached to the trauma and orthopaedic consultant teams, rotating as necessary and carrying out duties for any of the Trust’s 17 consultant surgeons
Main duties of the job
To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust’s patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust’s strategic direction.
To participate fully in clinical governance of the specialty covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend clinical governance half-days as detailed in the Trust’s Guide to Job Planning unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
(i) Clinical
Assessment of trauma, major and minor orthopaedic patients, under the supervision of senior clinical staff. It is expected that the post holders will develop their skills in the sub-specialty interests of the consultant firms and trauma.
(ii) Teaching
Formal and informal teaching sessions are available weekly. There are full postgraduate facilities on both sites with well stocked libraries and simulation suites. The trust has an excellent record for securing MRCS and NTN’s.
(iii) Research
Research commitment undertaken by firm or post holder; encouraged to do own research and to participate in any other formal research or audit.
(iv) Administration
Participate in clinical audit. There will also be commitment to quality assurance and the preparation of rotas.
