We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the Blood Science department of Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) in the beautiful garden of Kent, situated in south east of England with excellent road connections to London and the South-East Coast.

There is an exciting opportunity within the Clinical Biochemistry department at Maidstone Hospital for Senior Biomedical Scientist. Are you a suitably experienced, highly motivated HCPC registered BMS, with Higher Specialist diploma and MSc in Biochemistry who understands the requirements of a quality-driven service, is able to work under pressure, work flexibly using your own initiative and possess excellent communication and leadership skills?  Are you prepared to take on more responsibility including a full range of duties including supervising, staff training and maintaining quality management system? Part time or job share of roles would be consider.

Main duties of the job

As a Blood Sciences Service we pride ourselves in providing a quality-driven patient- focused healthcare, and do this by investing in our staff and technology. The Biochemistry department is based on both sites and is well equipped with Roche (Chemistry and Immunoassay), Sebia (electrophoresis), Ba200, (Calprotectin) Pledia (qFIT) Menarini (HPLC) analysers.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
  • Master of Science degree (MSc) in a relevant subject or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma or IBMS Fellowship examination or 120 credits in a postgraduate qualification(s) in relevant professional subjects including quality management.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant subject
Desirable criteria
  • Quality Management System qualification in healthcare
  • Management/ leadership course

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge and experience of quality systems based on ISO 9001 framework
  • Experience in undertaking audits, document control, change control practice, asset management, investigation and management of incidents including implementing corrective and preventive actions (CA/PA).
  • Proven experience in organising and prioritising multiple tasks and workloads to meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Training and supervising a team
  • Experience/ knowledge of UKAS accreditation process against ISO 15189: 2012 standards

Skills

  • Report writing skills
  • Intermediate to advanced use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good presentation skills
