Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trust for a floating fixed-term Locally Employed Doctor to support with a vacancy on the rotations for a period of 6 months, in the first instance. We are looking to recruit a versatile and adaptable individual to join the teams in West Kent or East Kent. 

As a floating member of team you can be deployed into a 6 month vacancy within Kent in line with the rotation dates, therefore a flexible and adaptable approach is essential.

This position offers a rewarding opportunity to gain relevant psychiatry experience at resident doctor level in order to support an application for the training scheme or a career grade role.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who works to the highest standards, is able to think autonomously and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be required to:

·       Apply the principles of philosophy and strategy which guides the Psychiatry Service

·       To develop and hold an appropriate caseload, under supervision of the consultant

·       Take full histories, including a mental state examination, and conducting physical examination focusing in particular on the central nervous system.

·       Summarise the history; making diagnosis; and making a care plan, jointly with the other members of the MDT.

·       Request appropriate laboratory investigations and ensuring that the results are documented in the notes, and appropriately managed

·       Take corroborative history from the relatives and arranging family meetings in relation to the management of patients and in respect of future management of the patients

·       Work collaboratively with a range of professionals across various partner organisations to provide holistic care to patients

·       Participate in ward rounds, and CPA meetings on the ward

·       Participate in MDT, CPA, adult protection and safeguarding, and professional meetings in the community

·       Keep accurate appropriate and up-to-date medical and administrative documentation records. The Trust uses the RIO system, training in and using the system is mandatory

·       To provide guidance and support to newly appointed and less experienced medical colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Additional related qualifications. e.g. intercalated degree, BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent
  • Completed MRCPsych examinations by offer date

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC with a current licence to practice.
  • Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent. Or 12 month medical experience post licencing and evidence to commence specialty training
  • 3 years NHS experience working within psychiatry or 2 years Psychiatry in the NHS (not including foundation years) and 1 year with medical, paediatric or GP experience.
