Job overview

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for 2 x highly motivated ambitious, enthusiastic and passionate Junior Clinical Fellows.  The posts are for a 12-month fixed term, with a possibility of a further 1-year extension within Integrated Sexual Health to work alongside a dynamic team of sexual health professionals working at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

This post would be suitable for those wishing to pursue a career in Sexual Health services or General Practice. This post is primarily outpatient based genitourinary medicine and contraception clinics. The postholder will be expected to independently manage unselected patients presenting with a variety of sexual health needs. There will be training opportunities to further develop knowledge and skills under the supervision of senior staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have responsibility to contribute to our sexual health strategy in line with the National Strategies and Kent Public Health priorities including meeting our accessibility targets, population health targets including ending the HIV epidemic (UK 2030 Zero HIV Transmission), increasing Chlamydia testing in those aged < 25 years and reducing unplanned pregnancy through availability of LARC contraception

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Fordcombe Hospital, near Tunbridge Wells, became part of the Trust in October 2024. Specialising in planned care, it offers two operating theatres, 28 inpatient and day-care beds, diagnostic services (X-ray, MRI, CT, and endoscopy), and consultation/treatment rooms.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC Registration
  • MB BS (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Intercalated BSc, BA, MSc
  • Experience in research methodology & publication
  • MRCOG (Part 1) or equivalent other degrees / qualifications

Clinical Experience and Training

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 24 months of SHO or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • At least 24 months in recognised UK posts

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Successful completion of Basic Life Support course.
  • • Personal Attributes: Shows aptitude for practical skills e.g. manual dexterity.
  • • Clear, logical thinking showing analytical/scientific approach
Desirable criteria
  • • Completion of relevant courses, e.g. ALSO or equivalent, Basic Surgical Skills or equivalent

  • • Ability to prioritise clinical need
