Job overview

To be responsible for providing a range of clerical services and to be on reception to greet, admit and discharge patients each day and to assist the nursing staff with any queries which may arise on the day.  This post is based at Burnley General Teaching Hospital

Main duties of the job

Admit and discharge patients.

Inputting pre admissions 

Flexible with working hours

 Using Microsoft  packages 

Take phone calls from the busy helpline

Prioritise enquiries and relay  messages in a timely manner.

Ensure that medical notes are requested and available on the unit if required.

To ensure that relevant paperwork is received and sent in a timely manner.

Help with any appointment queries from staff and patients.

Converse with the patients.

Working for our organisation

All staff here on the chemotherapy unit work really well together.

We are a very busy unit, often treating up to 60 patients per day. 

You will play a vital role on the unit as you will be the first person the patients come into contact with.

All staff have a very good rapport with the doctors and consultants who in return are really supportive of our team.

The unit always seems to have a positive atmosphere, even though we are dealing with patients who can be at their most vulnerable.

In return for your hard work and positive demeanor you will feel valued and appreciated by the team, but most of all the patients and their families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Summary

Responsible for providing a range of clerical services, including answering the phones, admitting and discharging patients, booking patient transport where required, booking interpreters, and requesting medical notes if required.

Working on the unit reception desk, greeting the patients when they arrive on the unit.

Keeping accurate records of patient activity.

Responsible for incoming and out going mail.

Reporting any faulty maintenance on the unit.

Ordering Stationary 

Support of unit nursing staff.

Other general duties required to ensure safe, personal and effective care is provided for our patients.
