Job overview

Diabetes Lead Midwife

We are seeking a motivated and experienced NMC registered midwife to lead our Diabetes in Pregnancy service. This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and passionate team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust as we continue to develop our maternity services.

You will work autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team to lead the diabetes in pregnancy midwifery service and provide high-quality, safe, and compassionate individualised care - contributing to improving care, experience, and outcomes for those whose pregnancy is complicated by diabetes.

You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of diabetes in pregnancy and a passion for supporting birthing people and their families to achieve optimal care and outcomes. For this role you should be an exemplary leader, have  excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a flexible approach and commitment to work.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality, safe, and holistic programmes of midwifery care to those whose pregnancy is complicated by diabetes. The post holder will have a high level of expert knowledge and skills which they will use to manage, develop, and lead the Diabetes service for maternity service users.

You will be involved with setting standards for midwifery practice and providing care for people with diabetes in pregnancy. You will provide expert clinical midwifery advice, training, and support in relation to monitoring and care as part of the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams.

You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programmes for pregnant people who are newly diagnosed or have pre-existing diabetes, coordinating and facilitating the diabetes service within the directorate - working closely and collaboratively with obstetricians and endocrine consultants, midwifery staff, service users, and stakeholders.

Working as part of the senior leadership and specialist midwifery teams, you will be expected to act as a role model and leader. You will oversee the specialist diabetes in pregnancy team and act as an expert resource, providing visible support, clinical knowledge, and education and training to healthcare staff and learners. In this role you will lead on audit, information collection/interpretation/analysis, and the development of guidelines and care pathways to achieve best practice.
