Band 7 Lead Midwife for Preterm Birth and Multiple Pregnancy - 37.5 hours

We are seeking a motivated and experienced NMC Registered Midwife to be the lead midwifery specialist for the preterm birth and multiple pregnancy care provision at Tameside and Glossop NHS Foundation Trust. You will work autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with the lead consultant obstetrician and Saving Babies Lives lead midwife. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to improving care, experience, and outcomes for families accessing these services.

You will be responsible for the provision of safe, individualised, and evidence-based care, advice, and support to those with a multiple pregnancy or at risk of/experiencing preterm birth. You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Saving Babies Lives care bundle and a passion for supporting staff, birthing people, and their families to achieve optimal care and outcomes. For this role you should have  excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a flexible approach and commitment to work. 

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality, safe, and holistic programmes of midwifery care to service users who are at risk of/have experienced pre-term birth (PTB) or who are identified as having a multiple pregnancy.  

The lead midwife will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and key stakeholders to enable the implementation and maintenance of the Saving Babies Lives (SBL) care bundle element 5 and strengthen preterm labour/birth and multiple pregnancy pathways, with a key focus on patient safety and reducing inequalities in all aspects of care. 

In this role you will lead and oversee the service from a midwifery perspective to enhance the quality of patient care, experience, and outcomes, demonstrating leadership in the management of risk and achieve consistency in practice, high standards of care, and innovation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Midwife with current NMC registration
  • Degree in Midwifery, or diploma with substantial experience
  • Mentorship qualification / up-to-date Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised leadership course, or willing to work towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience of NHS Midwifery as a band 6 midwife, with recent antenatal experience
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary/multi-agency working
  • Experience of audit or research within the clinical area
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of implementing change in service provision or participation in quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience of teaching, supervision, and assessment

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload, use initiative
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • IT skills appropriate to role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively

Knowledge
