Specialist Diabetes Midwife
Are you looking for new prospects in your midwifery career? We are seeking a motivated and experienced NMC registered midwife to support the diabetes in pregnancy service, where you will work autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to improving care, experience, and outcomes for the population of Tameside and Glossop whose pregnancy is complicated by diabetes.
You will be responsible for the provision of a safe and effective service in the delivery of care, advice and support to people with diabetes in pregnancy. You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of diabetes in pregnancy and a passion for supporting birthing people and their families to achieve optimal care and outcomes. For this role you should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a flexible approach and commitment to work.
Main duties of the job
To provide high quality, safe, and holistic midwifery care to women and their families whose pregnancy is complicated by diabetes. The post holder will have a high level of expert knowledge and skills and be provided with relevant specialist training where required, which they will use to manage, develop, and lead care for pregnant women and new mothers with additional needs.
You will work closely with and in partnership with the Lead Diabetes Midwife to act as an expert resource, providing visible support, clinical knowledge, and education and training to healthcare staff. In this role you will contribute to the development of guidelines and work to achieve best practice – engaging with staff and service users and working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams, service users, and stakeholders.

Essential criteria
- Midwife with current NMC registration
- Degree in Midwifery, or willing to work towards
- Mentorship qualification / up-to-date Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor
Desirable criteria
- Further study in diabetes in pregnancy
- Non-medical prescriber
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with pregnant or postnatal women with diabetes
- Evidence of continuing education and CPD
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a diabetes MDT
- Experience of data collection, policy writing and audit
Skills

- Ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
