Physiotherapy Assistant - Band 2

Permanent

1X 37.5 hours per week

We are looking for motivated, caring individuals with excellent communication skills to work within our dynamic in-patient Physiotherapy team to deliver a high quality service to patients on general medical wards.

 

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake specific support work to aid with the rehabilitation and mobility of patients.
  • To treat patients (often unsupervised) according to set treatment protocols and individual treatment programmes as identified by a physiotherapist.
  • Work with direct and indirect supervision, reporting back patient progress and informing physiotherapist of any problems.
  • To assist in the general administration and equipment needs of the physiotherapy department, as directed

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • G.C.S.E’s or equivalent including A- C and above in English Language and Maths
  • NVQ level II or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in caring for patients in a hospital or care setting
  • A good understanding of discharge processes
  • An understanding of social impacts on patient journeys
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working within a therapy team

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to deal with general public including those with communication/language barriers
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate with patient’s wide range of personalities including those with impaired communication abilities
  • Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade all patients including those with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Able to handle sensitive/confidential issues
  • Fitness to undertake the duties of the post
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate training (NVQ III)
