We are looking to a recruit  Specialty Doctor to join our comprehensive Care of Elderly  service at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. The post will enable the successful applicant to gain valuable experience in a number of clinical areas including:

  • Acute  inpatient work
  • Ward support and referral
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Ortho-geriatric ward reviews

The Care of the Elderly Department has an outstanding record in supporting and training specialty doctors, We are committed to supporting our middle grade doctors in reaching their desired career goals by developing their clinical, medical, educational and managerial skills.

Main duties of the job

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust seeks to appoint a specialty doctor in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric to work within our Adult Medicine department. The post holder will be based at Tameside General Hospital. The post is based within the Care of the Elderly Department and the main activity undertaken will include outpatient clinics, diagnostic tests and ward rounds and on calls for general internal medicine.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • At least 2 years’ experience in an equivalent grade working within a General Medical specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Specialty trainee competencies to the level of an ST3 in General Medicine (or equivalent)
  • Care of Elderly experience

Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC registration and license to practice
  • MRCP
Desirable criteria
  • ALS (or equivalent)

Skills

Essential criteria
  • IT Skills
  • Effective decision making
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and judgment.

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching/educational supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance to ‘Teaching for Teachers’ or similar course.

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate and liaise effectively with patients, relatives and with colleagues in all disciplines
  • Written communication in a clear and concise manner
