The post holder will lead Pharmacy Technician and non-registrant education and training. They will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs for pharmacy staff by developing colleague knowledge and skills and thus ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to regulatory standards. The post holder will also provide leadership and training for ward-based medicines optimisation technical services.
Main duties of the job
Specialist Duties and Responsibilities – Education and Training
- The Pharmacy Technician - Lead Education and Training post oversees training requirements for the Pharmacy department as a whole in conjunction with the Advanced Pharmacist (Education & Training) To arrange suitable competency-based training programmes for individuals and professional groups
- To liaise with the Advanced Pharmacist (Education & Training) in respect of Education and Training activities
- To mentor, train, supervise and competency assess pharmacy assistants during NVQ level 2 or the Stores Procurement Course
- To mentor, train and competency assess pharmacy assistants during Band 2 to 3 in-service training programme
- To mentor, train and supervise pre-registration trainee student pharmacy technicians and perform the role of Educational Supervisor
- To mentor, train, supervise and competency assess registered pharmacy technicians, medicines management assistants during ward medicines optimisation training
- To mentor, train, supervise and assess technicians/PTPTs during accuracy checking training
- Co-ordinate learning sessions alongside Advanced Pharmacist (Education & Training) within the department for all grades of staff
- To ensure the training needs of staff are met by co-ordinating/delivery suitable training packages to enable them to safely and confidently perform their duties
- To mentor, train and supervise staff completing the band 4-5 competency document

Essential criteria
- NVQ Level III in Pharmacy Services ( or recognised equivalent)
- Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
- BTEC Professional Development Certificate in Accuracy Checking (ACT)
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Assessor
- Completed or undertaking a post registration technician clinical diploma
- Leadership & Management Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a busy Hospital pharmacy (or equivalent documented clinical experience)
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good teaching and competence assessment skills
- Good all round practical clinical pharmacy and medicines management skills, in relation to level of experience gained
- Approachable, respectful and supportive to subordinates and managers.
- Understands the issues affecting the NHS and the pharmaceutical service
