Job overview

The inpatient units are designed to meet the holistic needs of service users/patients and carers, in a working environment conducive to staff development and wellbeing. The post holder supports the delivery of the inpatient hospital model providing leadership to professional and direct care staff, ensuring the availability of appropriate administrative support services in their wards to release clinical time to care.

The post holder will provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence on wards, to whom patients and their families can turn for assistance, advice and support

The post holder supports the delivery of the Inpatient Hospital model through

  • To actively promote teamwork, respect, integrity, accountability, excellence and compassion within the ward team in accordance with the Trust values and NMC code of conduct.
  • To oversee and ensure that nurse leadership within the multidisciplinary team provides effective assessment, formulation, planning and monitoring of care given to inpatient service users.

Main duties of the job

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will demonstrate clinical leadership and be responsible for the delivery of patient care, managing all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice. We are seeking an individual who is empathic, caring and motivated with a real passion to improve the lives of our patients. You will be an accessible presence on the ward, to whom staff, patients and their families can turn for assistance, advice and support. You will report to the Matron and actively promote teamwork, respect, integrity, accountability, excellence and compassion within the ward team in accordance with the Trust values and NMC code of conduct.

Dova unit is for adults who are experiencing a deterioration in their mental health, based at Furness General Hospital. The unit provides a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team based assessment and treatment for people suffering from mental health problems when they are unable to remain in their own environment, delivering an individual care and treatment plan in a safe supported environment affording privacy and dignity.

We know that our ward gets great feedback, recently we received 100% positive feedback.

5% Salary Adverts:

The 5% Salary Welcome Bonus package applies to this role. The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role; e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 24 months of employment.

The 5% Salary Welcome Bonus package is designed to attract and retain the very best staff in post. This scheme pays 5% of basic salary over 2 years in 4 instalments:

  • 1% of basic starting salary after 2 months (counted from start date with LSCFT)
  • 1% after 6 months
  • 1% after 12 months
  • 2% after 24 months

PLEASE NOTE: This bonus scheme is subject to a Repayment Clause should the post holder leave this role within 24 months of commencing employment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Post reg. learning and development relevant to the role
  • On-going registration with the NMC.
  • Mentorship qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and practice of Mental Health Act 1983
  • Knowledge and practice of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Demonstrate understanding of how research has influenced practice
  • Can provide evidence of recent professional/personal development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate experience at Clinical Leader level
  • Supervision and management of staff
  • Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing care needs
  • Experience of CPA

Skills & Abilites

Essential criteria
  • Ability to undertake effective aggression management including the use of physical restraint
  • Ability to maintain own performance and participation in group skills
  • Can demonstrate the ability to manage change
