One LSC is a new collaborative partnership shared service formed by the five NHS Trusts serving the Lancashire and South Cumbria population of 1.8 million people. We are a shared service run by the NHS, for the NHS and are hosted by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust on behalf of the partner Trusts of the Lancashire and South Cumbria system.
One LSC stands for ‘One Lancashire and South Cumbria’ and reflects the Lancashire and South Cumbria System ambition to have one team serving Lancashire and South Cumbria in a joined-up way. It is jointly run by the five Trusts as a collaborative partnership.

One LSC brings together the Digital, Data and Technology, Estates and Facilities, Finance, People Services and Procurement and Logistics services from each of the provider Trusts to create one central community of professionals. Job overview
To support the head chef and the management team across a range of duties. Assisting with the day to day operation, of the food production, and the maintenance of high standards of food production and hygiene. To prepare, cook and serve meals to patients, staff, visitors and special functions. The post holder will be able to work without supervision at stated place of work, complete HACCP documents, and support with the food waste plan ensuring that work is conducted to the required standards.
The role will be across sites within the ELHT at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, Burnley General Hospital and Clitheroe Community Hospital - own transport is essential - hours of duty will range between 6-18:00 daily
Main duties of the job
Work to very strict timetables in temperature changing conditions.
Ensure consistent use of standardised recipes, ensure that there is no cross contamination in relation to allergens. Ensure that you follow the departmental HACCP Policy and the catering standing orders.
Ensuring that the high standards of kitchen hygiene are maintained at all times, particularly with regard to safe handling of food, personal hygiene and dress.
Ensure the preparation and cooking of food is as the daily menu.
To comply with departmental procedures, security, food deliveries, training, recording of statistics, make decisions when necessary and be able to work without supervision.
Full compliance with the HACCP system (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control
Points) within the Catering Department.
Observe the principles of clean–as-you-go and in times of staff absence,
undertake light cleaning duties.
Any other duties consistent with the nature of the job as might be requested
by management from time to time to meet the exigencies of the catering
service as a whole
Temperature probing of meals and the recording of temperatures in accordance with department policies.
Duties will include lifting, carrying, bending twisting, pushing and pulling.
To complete training and utilize skills in all aspects of the job role as directed
The post holder may be required to work across all Trust sites and must be flexible in meeting the operational needs of the service

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Induction arrangements for new staff.
- Ensure that patients food is served at the correct temperature, attractively presented, portioned correctly and at the correct times.
- Allocate work in the section to obtain optimum performance and smooth running.
- Ensure the correct economical use of materials.
- Indenting for repairs of all faulty and hazardous equipment, including minor repairs to the building fabrics.
- Work closely with catering manager.
- Liaise with nursing and ward staff, catering supervisors, maintenance services, portering management and dietician.
- Ensure that the Health and Safety procedures are strictly adhered to, complying with safety instructions/polices laid down.
- Use in a proper and safe manner the equipment and facilities provided.
- Refrain from the wilful misuse or interference with anything provided in the interest of health and safety and any action which might endanger yourself or others.
- Report as soon as practical all hazards and defects, all accidents and untoward occurrences – ensuring that accident forms are completed.
- The collation of statistics relating to the food service and crockery washing for control purposes.
