A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Pharmacy Technician to work within our pharmacy homecare and chemotherapy teams to assist in the clinical verification of prescriptions for patients at ELHT. Candidates will hold extensive knowledge and experience, and the drive to deliver service and workforce changes for the future. We are passionate about innovation and service improvement. Main duties of the job
After training completion, the successful candidate will be able to carry out a range of clinical validation duties for different prescription types and specialities.
The right candidate will also be able to:
- Responsible for the clinical screening of a cohort of patients who are currently managed by our homecare service and out-patient chemotherapy
- Ensure continued supply of high-cost medicines to patients
- Support the team and deputise for senior team members where necessary and appropriate
- Work independently, with the support of the wider team
- Liaise and work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams
- Have a strong understanding of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society homecare professional standards and yearly audit

To provide team support, the standard hours requirements of this role are:
4 week days 8:30/09:00 to 17:00 /17:30
Weekends and Bank Holidays to be worked at Royal Blackburn Hospital on a rota.
The position is predominantly based at the Royal Blackburn site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Undertake clinical validation of prescriptions for an array of prescription types (within training remit), within the homecare and chemotherapy service.
· Working independently to assess clinical appropriateness of prescriptions prior to discharge when required.
· Identify and resolve prescribing errors/discrepancies with prescribers, following Trust formulary, local policy and national prescribing guidance.
· Provide high quality pharmaceutical care to patients and their carers, supporting the referral of patients to specialist services, and/or transfer of care.
· Liaise with specialist nurses, prescribers and non-medical prescribers to ensure timely prescribing and supply of medicines for patients using the homecare service.
· Deputise for lead pharmacy technician(s) and provide cover for other senior pharmacy technicians as required to support service delivery.
· Manage and support staff, responding to daily fluctuations in workload.
· Support the governance and risk management agenda.
· Support the development of agreed policies and procedures around safe medicines use.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
