The aim of this role is to provide high quality, effective Imaging services within cardiology including Cath Lab Angiography (electrophysiology, pacing, structural heart and coronary intervention).
The post holder will work closely with (on completion of training) radiographers, clinical staff, students of all grades in providing safe, prompt and effective imaging.
To deliver expert radiological services, acting as a specialist in this area (on completion of training) and a resource to provide advice within the department.
The post holder will possess good inter-professional communication skills which are essential for liaising with other radiographers, doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers at all levels of seniority.
Radiographers assist in all patient care needs in all the cardiac catheter laboratories. Influencing factors include the skills needed to provide patients or relatives with empathy and emotional support for the bereaved.
To participate in (on completion of training) the Governance of the Department in areas including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and Audit activities reporting any issues to Superintendent Cardiac Radiographer.
The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Main duties of the job
• To act as a named operator (Duty holder) under IR(ME)R 2017 regulations with scope of practice defined within departmental competency documentation (on completion of training).
• To be responsible for all aspects of Radiation Protection during Catheter Laboratory procedures.
• Ensure all patient demographics, imaging and data inputs are accurately recorded for patient record integrity, imaging recall and statistical evaluation purposes in relevant books and systems.
• To ensure that all clinical duties are carried out in such a manner as to ensure safety and compliance with any locally agreed protocols (on completion of training).
• To setup/maintain/administer intravenous contrast media using a pressure injector/manually as directed by a prescribing practitioner (on completion of training).
• To participate in the safe transfer of patients and equipment within the department and Hospital, using manual handling guidelines and risk assessments.
• Enter accurate patient and examination data into x-ray equipment and relevant associated systems e.g. ChangeHealth
• To work potential shifts as part of the contracted hours per week and work unsupervised within the out of hours arrangements (on completion of training) and participate in the on-call service rota.
