The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

Shifts between 08.45 –17.00 Monday to Friday
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Microbiology team. You will be part of a team of staff, being primarily responsible for providing a comprehensive, highly specialised and administrative support to the Microbiology department, in addition to all associated Consultant Microbiologists and Specialist Registrars. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the successful candidates will be able to work efficiently and effectively as a lone worker as well as in a team environment. Good typing skills and time management is essential for this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a comprehensive, highly specialised and administrative support to the Microbiology department, in addition to all associated Consultant Microbiologists and Specialist Registrars.
- To organise workload and co-ordinate activities to ensure efficient operation
- To support the organisational, clinical and managerial responsibilities of the department
- To transcribe and lay out high specialised clinical reports, agenda, letters and minutes and papers
- To retrieve and archive medical records, reports and other documentation
- To act as first point of contact for healthcare professionals, patients/relatives
Person specification
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- • English and Math’s GCSE’s grade C or above, or equivalent
- • Typing qualification RSA 3 or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- • NVQ level 3 business administration or AMSPAR Diploma
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- • Evidence of working within quality systems
- • Experience of managing own work loads
- Previous experience working as medical secretary
- Experience of using Labcentre, HISS, Nervecentre and Nexus
Desirable criteria
- • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
- • Previous experience working within a hospital setting

- • Good interpersonal and communication skills using verbal, written, numerical and visual means
