Job overview
The Hospital Safety Team is focused on providing a first-class service to patients, staff and visitors at all times, the post holder will be expected to supervise staff within the Hospital Safety team to achieve this goal.
The post holder will be expected to take an active interest in future developments of the department. Reporting to and supporting the Hospital Safety Team Manager with the effective management of the dedicated professional Hospital Safety Team whilst ensuring policies and procedures are always complied with.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver protection for patients, staff and visitors from acts of intimidation or violence, and ensure that all Trust property is protected from any criminal activity, and when required car parks, in order to provide a safe and secure environment for all patients, staff and visitors.
In the absence of the Hospital Safety Team Manager the post holder will be required to take overall responsibility for the supervision of the Hospital Safety Team
The applicant should have a proved record of previous Supervisor/Managerial experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties and Res[responsibilities
- To be able to conduct all operational duties of the HST Officer role and responsibilities (As per HST JD)
- Deputise for the Hospital Safety Team Manager in instances of annual leave or sickness and as the need arises. The Hospital Safety Team Supervisor will have freedom to act in relation to operational issues reporting back to the Hospital Safety Team Manager as necessary.
- To ensure all checklists set by the Hospital Safety Team Manager are completed in the required time.
- To assist in managing Quality Issues and Standards within the department, updating, and initiating positive ways to improve on service.
- Responsible for ensuring that all Hospital Safety Team staff are able to respond to security, car parking when required, fire and major incidents in line within operational procedures.
- To assist the Hospital Safety Team Manager to meet customer’s expectations by delivering a high-quality standard of service in a professional manner, on time and within the agreed costs.
- Support the Hospital Safety Team officers in carrying out their range of duties providing advice and mentoring when necessary.
- Manning of the Hospital Safety Team room in accordance with Security Policy Including CCTV monitoring and surveillance in accordance with Trust policies and GDPR/DPA.
- To carry out regular checks of the CCTV operating system and reporting an issues relating to CCTV / Cameras etc.
- To carry out frequent internal and external patrols in accordance with set security/fire procedures including safety checks, reporting of defects and attendance at incidents.
- To lock and unlock areas and set intruder alarms, investigate, and liaise with the police, in the event of any alarm.
- To assist in preventing acts of violence, crime, or disorder and to investigate incidents of theft, criminal damage, etc which do occur.
- To provide escort duties for staff and patients as required, including the movement of cash and valuables.
- To deal with incidents relating to lost and found property.
- To assist and support as and when required traffic management and car parking queries.
- To undertake the appropriate action in accordance with current fire procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of incidents and site visit logs using the Trusts recommended documentation.
- To act as liaison person for the receipt of emergency messages outside normal working hours whilst on shift, including taking necessary action.
- To act as key holder when required outside normal working hours whilst on shift.
- To provide assistance too Trust managers outside normal working hours and to respond to all emergency calls and major incidents whilst on shift.
- To maintain a correct log of the tour of duty and report in writing of any incident which occurs in accordance with the incident reporting procedure.
- To undertake training as deemed appropriate by the Trust.
- To report all Health & Safety, Fire & Security breaches.
- To assist in the control of contractors outside normal working hours in accordance with set procedures, relating to access and egress whilst on shift.
- Must be flexible to cover additional duties in line with the needs of the service, to cover duties as reasonable required and depending on availability during periods of high workload.
- To review practical aspects of security precautions and liaise with Hospital Safety Team Manager and Local Security Management Specialist
- To use departmental computers for Hospital Safety Team related duties.
- Responsible for ensuring strict adherence to the provisions of the Hospital Safety Team Operational Procedures
- Undertake staff appraisals on an annual basis as allocated by the Hospital Safety team Manager.
- Undertake the inputting and update of the Team Rota and HealthRoster.
- Undertake such other appropriate duties/responsibilities as allocated by any Trust Manager.

- Familiarity with security-related computer systems
