Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health Practitioner to join our team on the Section 136 Suite, which is based at The Harbour.  The Section 136 Suite is on the Urgent Care Pathway and all applications are welcome from Registered Mental Health Nurses.

The Section 136 Suite, Health Based Place of Safety is situated at the Harbour and plays a crucial role in supporting individuals in crisis.

The purpose of the Section 136 Suite is to provide an in-depth assessment within a 24-hour period.  The Section 136 Suite is a nurse led service, and you will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to carry out a diverse range of duties.  The highly cohesive team work very closely to support each other and there is a clear focus on support and professional development of our nurses.  This is supported through mentorship, supervision, training, teaching sessions and access to inpatient development days.

Main duties of the job

You will be instrumental in delivering duties that are aimed at promoting a timely assessment of needs and recovery.  The role will include accepting members of the public who are detained under Section 135 and 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983, co-ordinate assessments, undertake assessments and complete all clinical paperwork.

You will need to possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to carry out comprehensive assessments, demonstrate sound leaderships skills and staff development skills.  A strong commitment to your ongoing professional education and development is essential.

Successful candidates will be instrumental in delivering duties that are aimed at promoting a timely assessment of needs and recovery from mental illness. The role will include accepting members of the public detained under Section 136 and 135 of the Mental Health Act, MCA, co-ordinate assessments, undertake assessments and complete the clinical paperwork. There will be opportunity for you to work alongside and develop skills within the Home Treatment Team, Frequent Attenders team and the Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) to further enhance your development and to provide a whole team approach in our locality.

You will need to have 2 years post qualifying experience at Band 5 and possess excellent clinical leadership and interpersonal skills, the ability to carry out comprehensive assessments, be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and staff development skills. 

Working for our organisation

The £7k Welcome Bonus package applies to this role.  The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role; e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 24 months of employment. This bonus is applicable to any successful candidate whose interview for this role is conducted prior to 30th June 2024.

The £7k Welcome Bonus package is designed to attract and retain the very best staff in post. The amount a new starter would receive is shown in the Welcome Bonus Payment Schedule below:

  • £3,000 after 2 months of employment (counted from start date with LSCFT)
  • £2,000 after 12 months
  • £2,000 after 24 months
