Job overview

Full time 37.5 hours per week. Fixed term or Secondment for 12 months.

Provide the initial point of contact to patients presenting to the Emergency 
Department at front door streaming or acting as Triage Nurse and be
responsible for their initial presentation assessment and streaming to 
correct area of the Emergency Department: Urgent Care, Minors, 
Paediatrics, Triage. 
 Responsible for providing an expert nursing service, utilizing Emergency 
Nurse Practitioner skills such as Minor Injuries Module or equivalent 
Emergency Nurse Qualification to effectively treat/ initiate treatment to all 
patients presenting to the Emergency Care Minors unit and when clinically 
appropriate Paediatric Minor Injuries.

Working for our organisation

The Acute Adult Care Division is one of four Clinical Divisions in the Trust that includes Emergency Care, Complex Care and Specialist Medicine. The Division contains the busiest single site Emergency Department in Greater Manchester and has inpatient wards providing acute medicine, rehabilitation and specialist medicine services.  It provides a range of specialist out-patient and community services and is committed to providing excellent clinical performance and patient care.

  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accident and Emergency nurse with an interest in Emergency medicine to train to work within our Emergency Department Minors area. We have an excellent team of health care professionals in this already established area. The Nurse Led Minors area is supported with Physiotherapy and the ED consultant team.

  

As an Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Band 6 Trainee, you would be welcomed as part of the team to provide highly skilled nursing assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with both minor injury and illness. The successful candidate will be an experienced A&E nurse and have the opportunity to learn and develop skills and achieve academic competency in order to progress into an Emergency Nurse Practitioner role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Carrying out a comprehensive and systematic physical examination 
including: Muscular-skeletal, neurological examination in context with 
patients presenting with Minor Injury/ Illness. 
• Taking and recording a systematic patient history 
• Carrying out where appropriate, invasive and noninvasive
diagnostic and therapeutic diagnostic procedures
• Making diagnostic decisions based on interpretations of clinical and 
other findings such as laboratory results and radiology 
• Responsible and accountable for clinical decision making through 
the application of Emergency clinical assessment skills
• Devising an individual care plan. 
• As a non-medical prescriber (desirable), or use of PGDs,
prescribes safely, appropriately and cost effectively, based on sound 
knowledge of pharmacology
• Initiates prescribed treatment and medication 
• Screening of patients for the early signs of clinical risk factors
• Responsible for both initiating and then terminating an episode of 
care by either or referring on to another agency or by autonomously 
discharging the patient 
• Responsible for practicing independently.
• Responsible for using the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that 
patients receive appropriate services 
• Act as a resource for other nursing staff for clinical advice 
• Will demonstrate expert communication to all members of the multidisciplinary team
• Accountable for the direct delivery of clinical care to patients within 
the Emergency Care Unit setting
• Act as a role model, mentor, facilitator and educator
• Can undertake the role of Triage nurse when required.
