Job overview

We are seeking two enthusiastic obstetricians to join our team and contribute to the general departmental workload. The post holders will provide antenatal care, including specialist antenatal clinics such as diabetes, maternal medicine, Rainbow clinics, preterm prevention and, where appropriate, fetal medicine. The role includes labour ward cover, participation in the obstetric on‑call rota, Caesarean section lists, and active involvement in departmental risk management and governance.

Main duties of the job

• Provide antenatal care through general and specialist antenatal clinics, which may include diabetes, maternal medicine, Rainbow clinics, preterm prevention and, where appropriate, fetal medicine.
• Contribute to labour ward activity, ensuring safe, effective intrapartum care.
• Participate in the obstetric on‑call rota.
• Undertake Caesarean section operating lists.
• Deliver high‑quality obstetric clinical care as part of the multidisciplinary team.
• Support departmental risk management, governance activity and patient safety initiatives.
• Supervise, support and contribute to the training of junior medical staff.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the service to ensure excellent standards of care.

Working for our organisation

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust a major hub within Greater Manchester for women and children’s services and is the second busiest ambulance-receiving site in Greater Manchester. Services range from hospital based care in Bolton to community services across Bolton, Salford, Ashton, Leigh and Wigan.  The Trust received a ‘Good’ overall rating from the CQC in October 2023.

We deliver over 6,000 babies and carry around 1,500 gynaecological procedures each year. The Trust also has a tertiary level Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, enabling 1 in 4 women across Greater Manchester to birth at Bolton. We are a specialist provider of health services for women, babies and their families in the North West Sector of Manchester and beyond.

Professional Registration & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Medical Degree
  • CCT (or within 6 months of CCT completion)
  • MRCOG
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree MD or PhD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Teaching Medical Students
  • Experience of Audit
  • ATSM in high risk pregnancy or current high risk obstetrics experience
Desirable criteria
  • Sub Speciality Expertise or training
  • Completion of ATSM in fetal medicine/ maternal medicine

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Manage and motivate staff.
  • Work and relate to staff in other disciplines
  • Manage change and to organise development.
  • Special interest in high risk obstetrics
Desirable criteria
  • Assertiveness
  • Ability to cope under stress

Clinical Governance

  • Clear understanding of clinical governance
