Estates Maintenance Assistant - Higher Level (Semi Skilled)

We are a shared service run by the NHS, for the NHS and are hosted by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust on behalf of the partner Trusts of the Lancashire and South Cumbria system.
One LSC stands for ‘One Lancashire and South Cumbria’ and reflects the Lancashire and South Cumbria System ambition to have one team serving Lancashire and South Cumbria in a joined-up way. It is jointly run by the five Trusts as a collaborative partnership.

One LSC brings together the Digital, Data and Technology, Estates and Facilities, Finance, People Services and Procurement and Logistics services from each of the provider Trusts to create one central community of professionals. Job overview
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Maintenance team. This will involve undertaking semi skilled duties and assisting in the maintenance and repair across the full range of electrical, mechanical equipment , site facilities and building fabric
This includes working effectively with the minimum of supervision and supporting all multi skilled craft persons and liaising with external contractors in providing an effective maintenance and, repair service which is responsive to the users needs.
The post holder will be employed on routine/non routine and fault finding maintenance duties.
The post holder should have previous facilities/building maintenance experience.
The post holder must have the ability to work effectively using their own judgement to resolve situations/workplace problems and where necessary carry the emergency bleep/mobile communication.
Continued training will be applied to acquire craft duties, supporting craft and multi craft workers and work towards higher and wider abilities.
A full driving licence is essential.
Main duties of the job
We require a maintenance worker (higher level) to work within the estates department. The post holder will be required undertake a range of semi-skilled maintenance duties for electrical and mechanical building services within the hospital environment including plantrooms and clinical areas, completing planned preventative maintenance and defect documentation. The post holder must also be able to work with minimum supervision and support all multi-trade craft persons.

Please note, although this role is being advertised by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, it will transfer to OneLSC a Corporate Collaboration hosted by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust on 1.11.24. There are no plans to change the location of the role.

Attainments
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 2 or other equivalent recognised foundation qualification in maintenance
- Ability to carry out basic routine maintenance work following short induction training
- Be willing and able to participate in an ongoing training development programme within NHS Maintenance services
- Demonstrate a minimum of six months previous experience in a maintenance support role within an engineering or building field
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to manage priorities under pressure
- Hold a current UK driving license
Desirable criteria
- Hold a relevant specialised driving vehicle license (forklift truck, etc)
Personal Skills
Essential criteria
- Clear and accurate written and verbal communication skills. Able to listen effectively
- Demonstrate ability to cover in the department and provide reasonable flexibility in terms of hours worked
- Develop the ability to use own initiative and work under supervision.
Desirable criteria
- A pleasant manner and an ability to relate to people at all levels within and beyond the Trust.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
