Job overview

To assist the team to have a well-stocked, tidy and welcoming environment for patients. Carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of patients in support of and supervised by a registered nurse in accordance with local policy and trust guidelines. Relieve trained nurses of non-clinical duties.

To rotate through all clinical areas to meet service needs. To cover the unit over a 24 hour period from Monday 07:30 till Saturday 14:00

 

Main duties of the job

Transfer of patients throughout clinical areas to include wheelchairs and trolleys.

Receive patients into the reception/ Clinical areas – checking patients details prior to procedures and to act as a chaperone when necessary

Assist in the safe moving and positioning of patients.

Clean, check and prepare all transfer trolleys.

Assist in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazards

Removing of clinical waste and body fluids

Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained

Deliver specimens

Complete documentation per local policy

Refer untoward incidents to senior nurse on duty

Compile admission packs

Participate in internal rotation within the unit.

 

Working for our organisation

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Elective Centre team. You are being given the chance to become part of a committed team, providing high standards of care to adult patients attending for surgery/ procedures.

We are operational between the hours of 07:30 Monday to 14:00 Saturday, and cover a variety of shifts to cover this.

We currently cover Orthopaedics, General and Breast surgery,  Vascular, ENT, Oral and minor plastic surgery, Urology and chronic pain. The new unit also incorporate's a day surgery unit, Procedure room and 14 inpatient beds.

The elective centre is a very busy department and is both physically and mentally demanding.

You need to be flexible in your approach and have great communication skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Under the supervision of the registered Nurse provide care to the highest attainable standard as an effective member of the clinical team, in accordance with agreed practice.

         Check and prepare all transfer trolleys – i.e. Oxygen, suction, resus equipment, linen and replace, as required. Check and change Oxygen/C02 cylinders on patient trolleys.

       To transfer patients to and from all clinical areas, report any problems or issues regarding the patient to the relevant nurse..

            Assist in the safe moving and positioning of patients.

            Preparation of clinical area prior to procedure, by ensuring correct function of equipment, reporting any discrepancies and that there are adequate supplies of supplementary items.

Support the clinical team during procedures carry out safety checks

As instructed

Assist in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazards i.e. blood products, removing clinical waste and contaminated items to relevant collection areas.

                 Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained – e.g. of linen and clinical equipment and report discrepancies.  Order and replace as appropriate.

            Take delivery, check in relevant items and store all supplies and equipment for the clinical area.

            Complete specimen details as requested.

            Deliver specimens / x ray, as required by local policy. 

                  Have an awareness of the general and specific infection control measures

         Undertake recovery duties as instructed by the registered practitioner, caring for patients in the post-operative area of the Elective centre

        Complete all documentation per local policies – e.g. profiles and care plans or electronic record.

           Refer any untoward incidents to the senior person on duty via IR1 reporting system.

        Participate in internal rotation within the unit according to need and personal competency.

         Participate in regular staff meetings
