Job overview

To work in close partnership with other members of the breast imaging and multi-disciplinary team. Provide a high quality, customer responsive, confidential and user-friendly service, to clients, patients, relatives, and all health care professionals that use the East Lancashire Breast Screening Service and Symptomatic Breast Imaging Service. Provide a reception service in the breast imaging unit, attending patients and clients, booking appointments for both symptomatic and screening patients, inputting of patient information using the appropriate Trust information systems (Cerner, CRIS) and National Breast Screening Service (NBSS) computer system and dealing with patient and client queries.

Main duties of the job

    Undertake reception duties, recording patient arrival and patient non-attendances on CRIS/NBSS.

     Input data to radiology/breast screening computer systems.

     Dealing with telephone and general enquiries.

     Generating appropriate appointment letters using CRIS/NBSS,

      Retrieval and preparation of mammogram/ultrasound  films/images for clinics.

       Maintenance of screening/symptomatic image/film storage (filing, sorting, merging and updating film packets).

Undertake general clerical duties, action email requests, liaise with PACS 

Ensure quality standards are maintained.

Assist with the duties of other staff when required and providing cover in times of absence or extreme pressure.

 Undertake any other appropriate ad-hoc duties delegated by office supervisor or line Manager

 To support, train or mentor any new starters joining the breast imaging administration and clerical team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1  1.  Respond sensitively to enquiries from clients/patients who may be worried, angry or upset and forward calls to other team members if appropriate.

   2. Liaise with other departments and staff at all levels including GP practices, CCG’s and other NHS organisations as required.

3  3 .    Participate in mandatory and other relevant trust training

     4.    To participate in the departmental appraisal system in accordance with Trust procedure.

     5.    Participate in clerical update training sessions as arranged by the service

      6. To support the training of any new A&C  staff as guided by line manager.

 

7.    Participate in the multidisciplinary collective aim of the department to continually improve the level of the service in line with departmental quality objectives.

 

 

    8.    Ensure patient data is recorded accurately on appropriate database.

    9.   Maintain an efficient workflow in all areas of the service at all times

 10. Post holders are expected to work flexibly within their pay band. They should be expected to carry out activities for which they are competent. They may be required to carry out additional duties if they are receiving support or training in order to obtain the recognised level of competence.
