An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidates to apply for the role as Band 2 Theatre Support Worker within the Theatre department at east lancashire hospital trust. The Theatre departments across site comprises of 28 operating Theatres that operate on a wide range of patients’ covering the following surgical specialities:  Orthopaedics and Trauma, General Surgery, Vascular,  HPB,  Urology, ENT, Max-Facs.  East Lancashire Hospital's NHS Trust also specialises in robotic surgery and training opportunities within this field across both sites

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job are explained fully in the job description.  These involve:

  1. Checking, cleaning and preparing all transfer trolleys 
  2. Establishing a safe working environment for patient and staff and ensure that patient privacy and dignity are not compromised.
  3. To transfer patients to and from all clinical areas, report any problems or issues regarding the patient to the relevant staff.
  4. Receiving patients in the reception area, checking patients details prior to the procedures.
  5. Safe moving and handling and positioning of patients.
  6. Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained e.g of linen and clinical equipment and report any discrepancies to the staff in charge.
  7. Maintain appropriate department documentation – eg theatreman, care plans and electronic records in line with Trust Policy.
  8. Refer any untoward incidents to the senior person on duty via IR1 reporting system.
  9. Ensure all patient property is returned/transferred to the appropriate ward area.
  10. Report any concerns regarding patient safety, complaints or safeguarding issues immediately to a senior member of staff.

 

Working for our organisation

Your work base will be Burnley General Hospital although you will be required to travel across site to Royal Blackburn Hospital as and when the need of the service requires.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist the clinical team to provide a high standard of patient care in accordance with the 12 Fundamental Standard of care, and the 6 c’s, Trust Policy, through the provision of basic nursing care.

To rotate through all clinical services

To support the trust culture of flexible cross team working and the commitment to delivering quality services and outcomes, which support the trust policies on health care.

Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating patients and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with our trust values of safe, personal and effective.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in English and Maths level A-C or equivalent
  • Actively seeks to develop own knowledge, skills and ability
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma level 3 in healthcare/peri-operative support or 2 A levels
  • Willingness to undertake future study for own professional development and service needs

Peoples skills

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrate a sympathetic/sensitive approach to patients and colleagues
  • Advocate a positive attitude and show you are able to use your own initiative and demonstrate problem solving

  • Able to work the hours required by the service.

  • Able to work across both sites, Burnley General Hospital and Blackburn Hospital as the service need requires
