Job overview

The post will support career development in Community Dental Services through internal/external training and includes the provision of care within the specialties of special care and paediatric dentistry and urgent care for patients referred to LSCft by the Lancashire Call Handling Service.
This role is supported by an active Managed Clinical Network, Specialists in Special Care/Paediatric Dentistry and experienced Senior Dental Officers and therapists. Qualified dental nurses have training in extended duties including radiography, sedation, special care, fluoride application.
Mentoring, clinical supervision and peer review is provided and post holders are encouraged to undertake tier 2 accreditation in one of the specialties.
Full GDC registration and Performer number without restrictions are required. The post is not suitable for those looking to complete DCT/FD/ORE training. 

Main duties of the job

  • The provision of high quality routine and urgent care dentistry to service users referred to LSCFT Dental Services. Service users include level 2 special care and paediatric patients.
  • The provision of urgent care to service users referred to LSCFT Dental Services from the Lancashire Call Handling Service.
  • The provision of inhalation sedation and domiciliary dental care as required.
  • The daily supervision of Dental Care Professionals as part of the dental team.
  • The appropriate use and care of Trust facilities and resources
  • To provide care following NHS regulations, Trust policies and procedures, national guidance, Delivering Better Oral Health.
  • To utilise available skill mix as appropriate.
  • The post holder is required to undertake any other duties in line with those that could reasonably be expected of a Band A Dental Officer in line with the SPDCS terms and conditions and competencies.
