Main duties of the job
We are pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow (SCF) in Acute Medicine to join the Acute Medicine team at Chorley District Hospital, with close working links to Royal Preston Hospital.
This post provides registrar-level experience in Acute Medicine within a supportive, educationally focused environment. Although not a formal training post, the successful candidate will receive equivalent educational opportunities to specialty trainees, including access to an educational supervisor and e-portfolio.

The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust forms one of the Major Acute trusts in the Northwest with a range of specialities on site, as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the Departments of Trauma, Neurosciences, Oncology, Plastic Surgery & Burns, Vascular Surgery in addition to Renal Medicine. Innovation and quality improvement is actively encouraged with support from our Continuous Improvement team. Undergraduate medical student teaching is highly respected and an essential component for all departments within our Trust; as we develop active and developing links with the Universities of Manchester, Central Lancashire and Lancaster. Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration and License to Practice
- MBChB or equivalent
- MRCP Part 1
Desirable criteria
- Full MRCP
- Valid ALS
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least three years working in hospital medicine following primary medical qualification
- At least 2 years working in general internal medicine or a medical specialty
Desirable criteria
- Completion of core medical training or equivalent
- Experience in Acute Medicine
- Experience of required practical procedures
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
