Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Clinical Fellow in Elderly Medicine to join our friendly and forward‑thinking team at Chorley Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated doctor to develop advanced skills in the care of older adults within a supportive environment that encourages innovation, education, and multidisciplinary working.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality inpatient and frailty services, contribute to service development, and participate in teaching and supervision of junior colleagues. This post is ideal for someone aiming to progress in geriatric or acute medicine, offering valuable clinical experience and opportunities for career development within a dynamic and welcoming department.

Main duties of the job

You will work at registrar level in Elderly medicine at Chorley Hospital.

You will work in our Elderly Care department alongside the 4 Consultant Geriatricians. Your team consists of 1 Consultant and 2 Junior Clinical Fellows. You will be responsible to the Consultant Geriatricians, predominantly working on Rookwood A ward at Chorley Hospital.

We would expect you to lead ward rounds, typically consisting of 16 patients, and also support consultant-led ward rounds. You will join your consultant in a general geriatrics clinic.

You will also be involved in the 1:10 general medicine on-call rota, accepting medical admissions and providing ‘Medical Registrar’ cover for the hospital site. The on-call is based on the medical admissions unit (MAU). If you require, a period of shadowing can be provided before taking up the on-call in full.

You will be expected to perform procedures, develop communication skills (including obtaining collateral histories and advance care planning) and participate in multidisciplinary team working (including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy).
