There isn’t another role like this around in the driving sector – so it goes without saying that full training will be given which will include all aspects of driving duties - we know you will proudly wear the uniform provided and join a team of colleagues from all backgrounds who work together to keep the hospital ticking smoothly.

Please note there is a permanent and bank position available. You will be asked to state which roles you are interested in when making your application. Interviews are currently scheduled to take place on the 10th and 11th of July. 

Main duties of the job

The Transport Service would love to introduce you to our team if you are a conscientious and dedicated team player who is interested in providing a gold standard for our patients.

Roles within the Trust Transport Service include delivery and collection of ,but not limited to,  blood transfusions, microbiology samples, equipment and stock items. Using Chorley Hospital as a base you will be providing services to and from local Hospitals, Surgeries, Health Centres and Clinics. Depending on the specific task, you will be required to drive manual vehicles from a small van to a Luton van where you will be expected to operate a tail lift.

Our service runs 7 days a week between 7am and 7pm. Different start times and finish times apply to our schedules in 7.5 hour shifts.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Communicate verbally with clinical areas and Doctors surgeries  and the Portering supervisor and colleagues by phone and through written procedures, ensuring an effective exchange of information about Driving tasks and service needs
  • Communicate on and off site with a range of clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Undertake Driving duties as required
  • Drive vehicles on Trust business
  • Identify and act upon any potential risks or hazards within the working environment
  • Assist during a fire or a major incident
  • Pro-actively support the continued improvement of the service
  • Maintain and develop own competence for the role

Essential criteria
  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Safety Qualification
  • Manual handling Qualification
  • First Aid Certificate

Knowldge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Customer service experience
  • Proven ability to work without supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working in a hospital environment
  • Previous driving or courier experience
