Job overview

Fixed Term contract for 12 months.

The Senior Clinical Fellow role is required to support the Eye Unit through Oculoplastic clinics, minor operations, botulinum toxin clinics and general Ophthalmology on-call. The role is to provide support to the Oculoplastic service working under the two Oculoplastic Consultants, as well as working independently and autonomously. 

Main duties of the job

The candidate is expected to carry out independent oculoplastic clinics. Includes minor eyelid abnormalities, dry eyes/ tearfilm disturbance / lacrimal issues and running minor operations clinics and Botulinum toxin clinics. This could be expanded to ectropion/ entropion repair and additional surgery depending on experience and filling in theatre lists when the Consultants are away.

Provide clinical supervision to resident trainee doctors. 

Be part of the on call rota.

Person specification

Qualifications & Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • MB, ChB or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
Desirable criteria
  • FRCS/FRCOpth
  • ALS Provider
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree
  • Other relevant diplomas

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant medical work (either a continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification which is acceptable to the GMC.
  • Relevant experience in Ophthalmology with previous experience in Oculoplastic clinics, minor eyelid operations.
  • Knowledge of the use of Botulinum toxin in Oculoplastics.
  • Relevant NHS Experience
  • Equivalent service is also acceptable, with the agreement of the relevant College or Faculty Regional Adviser
  • Serve a minimum of four years in ST3+ staff grade and/or specialty doctor grade
Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken independent Botulinum toxin clinics.
  • Formal certified Botulinum toxin injection course.
