Job overview

This is a support secretarial role based in our Neonatal department at Royal Preston Hospital Fulwood Preston. 

You will work closely with our dedicated neonatal consultants as well as our nurses, supporting in an administrative capacity across the team.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible to support our Neonatal consultants, which consist of a team of 9 and our dedicated nurses. Your tasks will consist of the following administrative duties

  • Typing and formatting clinical letters, discharge summaries, and reports
  • Managing correspondence (emails, letters, phone calls) for consultants and clinical teams
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and filing systems (both paper and electronic)
  • Booking appointments, meetings, and managing diaries for neonatal consultants or teams
  • Minute taking for discharge meetings 
  • Overseeing the room bookings 
  • Ad Hoc duties

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Good general education. Minimum GCSE English and Mathematics grade A-C
  • Typing speed of 60 wpm
  • RSA 2 or equivalent
  • ECDL or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • RSA 3 Typing Qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Efficient use of Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and intranet
  • Recent audio typing experience
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuing personal and professional development
  • Experienced and competent minute taking
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Desirable criteria
  • Previous admin experience within NHS environment
  • Use of Trust IT packages ie Quadramed , Alma, Evolve
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
