Job overview

Would you like to join a compassionate, friendly and supportive team, where you can make a significant different to the lives of women/birthing people, their infants and families? We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join our North Lancashire & South Cumbria Specialist Perinatal Community Mental Health Team.

You will join other psychological staff who are all based in the team and you will be supervised by a senior clinical psychologist. You will contribute to the psychological care of service users under the care of the perinatal service. Tasks will include carrying out psychological assessment and intervention (individual and group) under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, assisting in clinically related administration, conducting audits and collection of statistics related to departmental research projects, training and project work. The post will require liaison and joint working with multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies. The role is busy, varied and interesting. 

You will receive professional and clinical supervision from senior clinical psychology colleagues, and there is lots of peer support and development and training opportunities.

Main duties of the job

•    To support the psychological care of service users under the care of the Perinatal Service. Tasks will include assisting with psychological assessment and psychological interventions (individual and group) under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. 
•    Assisting in clinically related administration, conduct of audits and collection of statistics related to research projects, teaching and project work. 
•    The post will require liaison and joint work with multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies, and the ability to communicate complex and highly sensitive information using highly developed interpersonal and team working skills. 
•    There will be regular review of work goals and weekly clinical supervision

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • The Graduate Basis for Registration (further to completion of an honours degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society,
  • or, in the case of courses that are not accredited or where the first degree is not in psychology, by completion of the Society’s Qualifying examination, or completion of a Society accredited Conversion Course).

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer literacy including skills in statistical packages, databases, and spreadsheets and in undertaking literature searches.
  • Understanding of clinical, personal, and professional challenges of working in perinatal settings.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively in both oral and written formats, and in environments which are highly emotive and stressful.
  • Commitment and ability to work with clients where there may be significant clinical, service, cultural and system barriers to engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and using own initiative on a day-to-day basis.
