Main duties of the job

The Team Leader is expected to undergo all aspects of training, which is geared to equip them with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out the wide range of tasks within the department, requiring a high degree of numeracy, record keeping ability and attention to detail.

You will be liaising with customers and staff from all levels across Salford Royal Foundation Trust and Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust sites.

You will be expected to be pro-active in seeking ways to improve the processes and procedures within the unit that will sustain effective and efficient ways of working, thus driving the continuous improvement of service quality and performance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist the Operation Managers and Shift Coordinators to manage the Department so that its personnel, plant and other resources are organised to meet effectively the foreseeable needs of the Theatres, Wards and Departments within the Trust for sterilised and disinfected medical or surgical equipment, and other items authorised by the Trust’s policy.

The post holder will be expected to continually seek ways to improve the processes and procedures within the unit that will sustain effective and efficient ways of working which will drive the continuous improvement of service performance.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum education to G.C.S.E. (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
  • Healthcare Science Level 2 or above or equivalent level of knowledge and experience through decontamination training.
Desirable criteria
  • Supervisory course.
  • I.T. Skills.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in Sterile Services.
  • Supervisory role / experience.
  • Administrative experience.
  • Record keeping.
  • Stock control experience.
Desirable criteria
  • H.R. Experience.
  • N.H.S. Procedures.
  • Theatre knowledge.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take a global balanced view.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Able to lead and motivate teams.
  • Conflict management.
  • Performance manage the team and individuals to KPI’s.
  • Ability to coach.
Desirable criteria

  • Detailed knowledge of Disinfection & Sterilisation techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of Surgical Instruments & Equipment.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of HTM:01-01 & ISO13485 accreditation.
