Business Support Officer

NHS Greater Manchester's (NHS GM's) Population Health team is looking for a Business Support Officer to provide high-quality business and administration support, which is focused, flexible and timely, contributing to the objectives of a fast-moving programme of activity within the Greater Manchester Public Health Network (GMPHN).

The postholder will need to provide a full range of business support and administration services to meet the support needs of the GMPHN team, contributing to the delivery, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of this service.

NHS GM plans and delivers joined-up services to improve the health and wellbeing of the population residing in Greater Manchester. Its goals include improving population health and healthcare outcomes, tackling inequalities, enhancing productivity and value for money, and supporting broader social and economic development. This is achieved at various levels, including neighbourhood, place, combinations of places, and the Greater Manchester system.
The role is employed by NHS GM, within the Strategy, People and Partnerships directorate, but is wholly deployed to work as part of an integrated team under the leadership of the GMPHN, which is made up of the 10 Local Authority Directors of Public Health, the Associate Director of Population Health from NHS GM, OHID, and UKHSA.
The GMPHN's three core ambitions for 2026/27 are:
- System Change: Maximise system-wide credibility, influence and impact.
- Healthy People: Deliver pan-GM programmes to tackle the key causes or drivers of poor health.
- Healthy Places: Take collaborative action to strengthen the building blocks of good health.

COMMUNICATION
- Deal efficiently and courteously with queries and correspondence, both written and verbal from a wide range of internal and external customers.
- Complete all documentation and correspondence accurately and to a high standard in line with procedures and within agreed timescales.
INFORMATION RESOURCES, ANALYSIS AND DECISION MAKING
- Input information as required onto a range of corporate systems and service-specific platforms.
- Update and extract information from management information systems accurately and competently as required including the retrieval and collation of reports to agreed procedure.
PLANNING & ORGANISATION
- Provide support to senior officers as required, including organising and attending meetings as required, and taking minutes and action notes where requested.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of high-quality management information systems and business support activities, providing comprehensive advice to stakeholders.
PATIENT/CLIENT CARE
- Deal efficiently and courteously with queries and correspondence, both written and verbal from a wide range of internal and external customers.
POLICY & SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
- Use initiative and established procedures to resolve queries at the first point of contact or escalate when appropriate to managers within agreed timescales and procedure.
FINANCIAL & PHYSICAL RESOURCES
- Procure, monitor, and maintain office stationery and equipment, ensuring changes are made in line with procedures, budgets and agreed timescales.
RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT & AUDIT
- Provide accurate research and analysis support where required and produce a range of high-quality communication, such as emails, reports and briefing notes for various audiences and purposes including complex, confidential, and sensitive correspondence.

Qualifications

- Educated to at least NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience.
Experience

- Demonstrable experience of working in a business support or administrative role support.
- Managing filing and/or cataloguing systems
- Experience of dealing with a range of office systems and undertaking desktop research to support service delivery
- Demonstrable experience of taking action to reduce inequalities
Knowledge

- Able to use Microsoft office and capable of developing competency on a range of bespoke case management platforms.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills with an ability to undertake calculations and produce letters and other documentation.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders to identify information needs and to know how to go about obtaining the relevant information.
