We are delighted to open up applications for a qualified assistant practitioner to work in a developing team working with individuals who have had a stroke, acquired brain injury or other complex neurological conditions requiring rehabilitation from a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, psychology and rehabilitation assistants. 
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal qualities. The successful candidate must be willing to work in a fast paced environment, have a positive outlook and ensure that delivering a quality service, which genuinely engages with service users and carers is a key priority.

There will 2 posts available 1 wte and 0.6 wte.

Due to the nature of the role we can only accept applications from those age 18+ 

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Practitioner in Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of a trained clinical support worker aligned to Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology working with stroke, ABI and neurological patients in a community setting. They will, have a required level of knowledge and skill beyond that of the traditional healthcare assistant or support worker. Their role is designed to work across patient pathways and professional boundaries offering additional flexibility in the delivery of new care models.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • GCSEs Maths and English at grade C (or equivalent CSE / O Level), functional skills or key skills level 2 in Maths and English (must have proof of qualification)
  • • Evidence of level 3 study ( UCAS tariff points 72-80,
  • • BTEC: Merit, Pass, Pass .Access to Higher Educational Diploma:72-80 points )
  • • Fundamentals of care certificate (learner can complete this within 6 months of the programme).
  • • Completion of the Assistant Practitioner Course
  • • Evidence of up to date Organisation Mandatory Training

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
  • • Knowledge of impact of life after a stroke on daily activity and function
  • • Intermediate IT skills Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional
  • • Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well-being

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience within medical/care setting working with service users to promote their recovery and wellbeing
  • Experience of supporting therapeutic interventions with service users.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload and individual patient contact
  • Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities
