Job overview

Water Meadow View is a brand new mental health inpatient facility for adults who have learning disabilities, which is due to open in November 2025 on our site in Whittingham, Preston. As we prepare for the opening, we have an exciting opportunity for Clinical Leads to join us and support the multi-disciplinary team to plan for the delivery of outstanding person centred care. 

One of the Trust's aims is to deliver the best possible care to our patients. Water Meadow View will offer clinical excellence, support and safety, with patient-centred care at its heart.

Working with the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will lead and be responsible for the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, evidenced based care and patient experience within the care group's inpatient settings through proactive clinical leadership to staff at all levels within their clinical area of responsibility.

As a clinical lead you will have responsibility for the delivery of the models of care and have responsibility for one of 3 key areas including Reducing Restrictive Practice, Physical Health and/or Positive Behaviour Support with an overarching responsibility to support a trauma informed approach to care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have leadership experience, exceptional communication skills, motivational and influencing skills, and be able to encourage teams to work across organisational boundaries whilst holding patient care at the heart of their work.

The post holder will deliver on key responsibilities within the inpatient service by:

  • Being visible and leading by example
  • Using clinical judgement and observations
  • Clinical teaching, upskilling, and assessment of staff and student nurses
  • Ensuring that patients, families and carers are fully involved in the planning and delivery of care
  • Ensuring safe and high-quality care is delivered
  • Driving up clinical standards

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse
  • RMN or RNL degree

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of current key NHS developments and policies and implications for service delivery
  • Demonstrable Knowledge and skills in evidence based needs led assessments, of highly complex and co-morbid presentations of people with learning disabilities, autism and mental illness, their families and carers.
  • Advanced knowledge of learning disabilities, behaviours that can present as a challenge, mental and physical health conditions, evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatments relevant to the needs of this client group.
  • Good knowledge of legislation, acts and developments relevant to people with learning disabilities and mental illness within inpatient settings (MHA, MCA, Human rights act, use of force act, Care Act)
  • Knowledge of discharge pathways from inpatient settings

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within an inpatient setting
  • Experience of utilising a range of assessment methods including risk assessment
  • Evidence of extensive professional clinical knowledge, skill and experience in contemporary learning disability clinical practice including working within a PBS framework
  • Experience of partnership working across a range of agencies and professional boundaries
  • Experience of effectively working with service users and carers
  • Experience of delivering clinical /professional supervision in an inpatient setting
