Job overview

The Senior Cardiac Physiologist  will assist the Cardio Respiratory Manager in the provision of an efficient and cost effective service to the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. 

We want a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic team of Cardiac Physiologists.  The applicant must be competent to perform the full range of non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tests. 

You should be a self-motivated, well organised with excellent interpersonal skills. You should have the ability to prioritise and use your own initiative. You should have a flexible attitude and the willingness to travel between sites within the Trust.  Suitable applicants should have the ability to work under pressure and be able to work effectively within the team. 

Main duties of the job

You must be able to provide evidence of continuing professional development. Suitable candidates must possess either a BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology, SCST parts I and II or BTEC / HTEC in MPPM or equivalent and be RCCP/AHCS registered.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality diagnostic and treatment including performing ECGs, ambulatory monitoring, autonomic function testing, doctor and physiologist led ETT, Tilt table Testing and Nuclear Medicine perfusion scans etc. within the Cardio-Respiratory Department.

Continuous professional development is strongly encouraged at this Trust and you will have excellent opportunities to develop further your skills and knowledge.

Open to band 5 with completion of competencies to a band 6.

  • Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.

  • Maintain and develop own competence.
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement  of competencies.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • • Degree in Cardiac Physiology, PTP or equivalent
  • • RCCP registration
  • • ILS
  • • Up-to-date continual professional development
Desirable criteria
  • • Work based assessor/mentor qualification
  • • Post graduate studies in a relevant field of willingness to go this

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience as a cardiac physiologist
  • • Some experience of supervision and training of other staff
  • • Evidence of clinical competence in non-invasive cardiology
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of managing own work load and time
