Job overview
We are looking for a part time Locum Consultant to join the Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This will cover 0.5 WTE and will be for 6 months. The post has been created to meet the rapidly increasing demand for clinical services in Adult Allergy.
The Allergy service is well established and has been providing clinical care since 1979. This is a regional service and serves a population of approximately 1.8 million people. The service is Specialised Commissioned for both Adult Allergy and Immunology.
The successful candidate must be on the specialist register (Allergy) of the GMC or be eligible to be on the specialist register within six months of the date of the Appointments Advisory Committee.
The appointee must have completed the Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board (PMETB)-approved Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) curriculum in Allergy or demonstrate (to PMETB or an Appointments Advisory Committee) evidence of equivalence in knowledge, training and experience of Allergy and the care of patients with allergic disorders and must hold the MRCP (UK) or show evidence of equivalent training and experience.
The Adult Clinical Allergy services currently provided by the Allergy and Clinical Immunology department are based at the Royal Preston Hospital, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Allergy services
The department provides a Tier 3 allergy Regional Services to the Lancashire and South Cumbria zone of the North West Region. A comprehensive service in allergy for adults is provided. Most patients are seen as out-patients or day cases. Approximately 1,600 new allergy patients are seen per annum.
Skin tests and specific IgE tests are performed.

- Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/ Good Medical Practice
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
- MRCP or evidence of equivalent training and experience
Desirable criteria
- MD, PhD
Experience and Skills
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience in all aspects of adult allergy, including general allergy, immunotherapy, food allergy, drug allergy and testing
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in allergy.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Trained Clinical Supervisor
Desirable criteria
- For those on Specialist Register, evidence of satisfactory completion of CPD in allergy since registration
- Trained Educational Supervisor
Management
Essential criteria
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the allergy department
- Ability to organise and manage the allergy service e.g. outpatient priorities / day case lists
- Evidence of Clinical Leadership
- Evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development
- Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
Desirable criteria
- Experience of business case preparation and establishing new clinical services
Research and Development
Essential criteria
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Evidence of interest in personal development e.g. through research and/or publications

- Publications in peer- reviewed journals

- Resident within 30 minutes travel time to Chorley/Preston
- Experience of supervising Foundation Trainees and SHOs/ST1s and ST2s

- Caring attitude to patients
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
