It's a very diverse role, crammed full of different activities from undertaking reception duties to receiving samples and everything in between. Main duties of the job
This isn't a typical behind a desk job - you will never be bored & will certainly achieve your daily steps. Your self-motivated nature and effective team working skills will enable you to thrive as the Supervisor of our Pre-Analytic Processors working in our Pathology Reception area in the heart of the Royal Preston Hospital.
Your effective communication skills will also be key as you will liaise with a wide variety of individuals within & outside of our department using a wide variety of systems ... just imagine...you will be talking to a Neurosurgeon, then a technical engineer followed by a cleaner. Talk about keeping things interesting!

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Supervising a team of staff based on Pathology Reception
- Performing appraisals & probationary reviews
Providing training & ensuring that staff are given time/resources to complete all mandatory training
- Receipt & sorting of biological samples for the Pathology Directorate;
- Ensuring that laboratory consumable supplies are maintained to the wards & to all of the GP Practices in the Greater Preston & Chorley & South Ribble PCN's
- Handling enquiries face to face, via email and on the phone
- Ensuring that urgent work is fast tracked appropriately through the department
We are a busy, modern, and well equipped UKAS accredited Laboratory, which provides specialist services to Plastics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Renal, Trauma, Orthopaedic and Cancer Care in addition to the routine services.
Whilst the role is primarily based at Preston, you may be required to work at our Laboratory at Chorley Hospital to cover absence
The post is a full time position and may include weekend cover. A flexible approach to working hours is necessary, including covering bank holidays when required - after all, we are a hospital and our services run 24 hours a day 365 days per year.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard, or equivalent, with at least 3 passes at grade A to C or equivalent. To include; Maths, English & a Science subject
Desirable criteria
- NVQ 2 Clinical Support
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Previous Laboratory Experience
- Experience of supervising others
- Good IT skills
- General appreciation of the importance of Health & Safety issues
- Understands the need for confidentiality
Desirable criteria
- Previous Data Input experience
- Previous Pathology Laboratory Experience
