Assistant Technical Officer

Band 3

Job overview

Are you looking for a role where every day brings variety, teamwork, and the chance to make a real difference to patients? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Clinical Neurophysiology department as an Assistant Technical Officer.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, motivated team player with strong technical and communication skills, and a genuine interest in combining both clinical and administrative responsibilities.

Based at Royal Preston Hospital, you’ll be part of a busy, welcoming team that delivers Neurophysiology services across Lancashire and South Cumbria. With service expansion underway, this is a fantastic time to join us and grow with the department. While the main base is in Preston, there may be opportunities to support services at other hospital sites.

We’re passionate about training and professional development, and you’ll benefit from a structured training programme with full support and competency-based assessments to help you succeed in your role.

What we’re looking for:

  • 4 GCSEs (including English, Maths, and Science)

  • Proven IT skills

  • Experience working with people (preferred, but not essential)

If you’re eager to learn, enjoy working as part of a team, and want to build a career in a supportive, forward-thinking department, we’d love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

You will support a team of Clinical Physiologists and Consultant Neurophysiologists to perform a range of Neurophysiological investigations, predominantly assisting medical staff during EMG/NCS investigations.

Non clinical responsibilities include preparation and cleaning of clinical areas, in addition to supporting the administrative team, answering the telephone, working on reception and generally contributing to the smooth running of the department.

Working for our organisation

The Neurophysiology department in Preston has a busy, friendly team of staff who provide a Neurophysiology service across Lancashire and South Cumbria. Expansion of services is currently under development.

The job is based at Royal Preston Hospital but a need to work on other hospital sites is a possibility.

The department is committed to training and the continued professional development of staff.
