Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow nodal point 4 (MT04)

Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow (Registrar Grade) to join our Neurosurgery Department, based at the Royal Preston Hospital.

The Contract of employment will be full time, fixed term of 12 months, in the first instance, to commence as soon as possible.  Potentially renewable for up to 2 years and salary will be based upon the appropriate current Specialty Registrar scale (MT04).

The post is part of the middle-grade neurosurgical on-call, which is currently a 1:12 Partial-Shift rota. However, this may be subject to change and regular monitoring.

Main duties of the job

You will be working at registrar level to ensure effective delivery of clinical care within the department.

This post is for an experienced neurosurgical trainee able to work at registrar level and it offers significant surgical and clinical exposure to enhance your current experience, allowing you opportunities to develop your future for training and career advancement, as the post is fully supported and educational and research activity is also encouraged.

This post is ideal for a senior trainee approaching CCT or aiming to apply for CESR.

Although these are not formal training posts, this post will allow you full opportunities for training in a structured fashion similar to recognised training posts, including attending clinics and theatres.

You will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers in the efficient running of the services and will share with other practitioners in the medical contribution to management.

You will have responsibility, delegated to you by the consultants, for the training and supervision of staff, including junior medical staff who work with you, and you will devote time to this activity on a regular basis.

Working for our organisation

The Department is staffed by 12 Consultants; there are 12 Middle Grades which include 4 Training posts (ST4-8) and 6 non-training Trust appointments, one Research Fellow and one Spinal Fellow. They rotate between each Consultant/team every six months. There are 3 ST1-3 and 5 Clinical Fellows who take part in the 1:8 rota. The role is supported by Nurse Practitioners.

All medical and dental staff are expected to comply with appropriate health and safety policies.

Secretarial support and office accommodation will be provided.

Our team is our work family. At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, you will be working as part of a collaborative, friendly and caring team of incredible people who are committed to providing excellent care with compassion.
