Job overview

Here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we are the tertiary centre for Neurosurgery for Lancashire and South Cumbria, providing services to Preston, Chorley and South Ribble, Blackpool, Blackburn, Burnley, Lancaster and South Cumbria and beyond! 

 

The post holder will be a member of a team of clerical support staff providing secretarial and administrative support to the Neurosurgery which will include support to the consultants, junior medical staff, trauma co-ordinator and any other staff. They will support the efficient channelling of communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust. The post holder will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

Main duties of the job

Responding to external and internal telephone queries from staff, patients and others and referring to appropriate person

Organising incoming and outgoing post, referring enquiries to appropriate person if necessary

You will support the efficient channelling of communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other specialties within the Trust

You will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, be flexible in approach, be able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism

You will be able to organise incoming and outgoing post, referring enquiries to appropriate person if necessary

You will be responsible for the formatting of clinic and admin letters, ensuring high levels of accuracy at all times

Neurosurgery is a specialty which diagnoses and surgically treats patients with injuries or conditions of the brain, spinal cord and spinal column, as well as the peripheral nervous system.  The specialty treats a wide range of such conditions, including tumours of the brain and the spine, brain aneurysms, spinal cord compression, amongst many others.  It really is a very interesting specialty to work for!

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • GCSE's in Maths and English at Grade C / 4 or above or relevant experience
  • RSA Level 2 or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • RSA Level 3
  • Use of medical terminology

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with the public
  • Aware of the concept and application of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a health care or related setting
