Job overview

The Women and Children's Division are looking for a highly motivated Paediatric Diabetes Administrator/Data Input Clerk to join our very busy team. 

Effective communication skills with high attention to detail are essential for this role as is flexibility to the needs of the service . Knowledge of Microsoft Office products is essential. Experience in a hospital environment would be beneficial but not essential.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be a member of the Paediatric Diabetes Team providing administrative support to all 
    members of the team. 
  • You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise 
    initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for 
    confidentiality and integrity. 
  • You will be expected to support other administrative roles within the diabetes team.

  • Maintaining an accurate database for our Paediatric Diabetes Service within the Women and Children's Division at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals using the Twinkle database
  • Prepare for NPDA data submission  
  • Data entry and retrieval from databases /core clinical systems
  • Liaise with professionals in the Diabetes clinics to help facilitate proper recording of clinical information
  • Produce accurate reports regarding the  Diabetes service as and when required via the Twinkle database 
  • Take messages and telephone calls from staff, patients, relatives and other liaison with internal and external departments or organisations and deal with their enquiries, referring on where required, providing reports and correspondence and arranging out patient appointments if required
  • Liaise with Consultants, Specialist Nurses, General Practitioners and other Health Professionals as required to ensure a seamless service is provided to our CYP utilising LTHTR services
  • Taking of meeting minutes 
  • Overseeing clinic appointments and ensuring patients are booked onto the correct clinics including MDT and Nurse Led clinics. 
  • Ad hoc duties as required / assigned by teams such as sending out holiday letters, news letters and invitations to education sessions.
  • Responsible for completing work accurate in a timely manner consistent with departmental practice or protocol
  • Work in a manner consistent with Trust and local policies and procedures, protocols etc

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Good general education.
  • ECDL or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Medical terminology
  • Ability to perform specific job role to support clinical activities / competence

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Efficient use of Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and intranet
  • Previous proven admin/clerical experience
  • Excellent customer care skills and telephone manner
  • Willingness to share knowledge
  • Demonstrates awareness of the Trust values and Patients Service Standards
  • Knowledge NHS Trust procedures
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act
  • Previous experience with databases
Desirable criteria
  • Previous admin experience in NHS environment
  • Use of Trust IT packages ie Quadramed, Twinkle Database
