Job overview
We are seeking to recruit an innovative & forward-thinking Specialist Physiotherapist, to join the SMRC team.
Using your proven skills and abilities, you will support our Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, in the daily operation of the rehabilitation gym and physiotherapy service.
A major part of your role will be to undertake expert assessments, management, and discharge for patients within the specialist clinical area.
You will excel at monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of care and professional practice, working in partnership with colleagues in areas including trauma, rehabilitation, neurology & stroke management.
You will be responsible for ensuring the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care to meet the personalised health and wellbeing care needs of patients, in line with the Trust’s Values & Professional Framework.
In doing this, you will act as a strong role model and provide development, clinical supervision and advice for patients, other staff, and students to support them in reaching their full potential.
In addition, it is imperative that we engage closely with the Occupational Therapy service in Primary and Secondary care, and you will act as a vital link in this chain.
Main duties of the job
You will provide a comprehensive specialist physiotherapy service including assessment and development of treatment programmes for patients referred to the service, including prioritisation, assessment, planning, advice, treatment, evaluation and discharge, demonstrating evidence-based practice.
You will support the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine in the efficient running of the specialist clinical area of amputation rehabilitation, walking training and sports physiotherapy by providing strong physiotherapy leadership to the team.
You will provide physiotherapy services to a high activity veteran population. This work will include trauma, rehabilitation and potentially working in conjunction with British Athletics.
You will act as a strong role model and provide development, clinical supervision and advice for patients and other staff and students to support them in reaching their full potential.
You will ensure the productive operation of the department through the maintenance of a safe, clean and organised environment.
You will act as link between the Physiotherapy service in Primary and Secondary care.

Preston Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) is part of the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The SMRC is a regional Centre, providing Prosthetic, Orthotic, Wheelchair and Specialist Seating services throughout Lancashire, South Cumbria and beyond.
We are one of 9 centres that were awarded Specialist War Veteran Centre status with the associated Specialist facilities (e.g. high specification rehabilitation exercise area).
The Centre has a truly multidisciplinary team including; Consultant in Amputee Rehabilitation, Prosthetists, Prosthetic Technicians, Orthotists, Psychologist, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nursing Team, Assistant Practitioners, Physical Training Instructor and Administration Teams,

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will assist and support the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine in the safe, effective management of the area including supervision of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
You will be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
You will ensure a high standard of service is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Appropriate HPC Registration
- Degree in Physiotherapy
- Evidence of CPD in relevant areas
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate courses in relevant clinical area of Physiotherapy
- Member of CSP
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous varied experience relevant to role
- Recent experience in amputee & trauma rehab
- Recent experience in sports physiotherapy MSK at Band 6 or above
- Previous experience in sports rehabilitation at Band 6 or above
- Supervision of senior, junior staff and TAPs
- Good understanding of MDT dynamics
- Experience of EBP
- Willing to expand clinical role
- Awareness of changes within Physiotherapy practice
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of ethical issues
- Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality
- Knowledge of Leadership and Management
