Job overview

This is a Senior Clinical Fellow post based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (LTH) on a full-time fixed term basis for 1 year, with possibility for further extension.

The post would be suitable for doctors with renal experience who are interested in developing their experience and procedural skills in: percutaneous PD catheter insertion, renal biopsy, tunnelled dialysis catheters, vasculitis, glomerulonephritis and post-transplant follow-up clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will share the in-patient duties with other renal specialist registrars (including an element of prospective cover). Whilst covering the wards the post-holder would be expected to participate in ward-rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings. They will work under the supervision of a renal consultant leading one of the 2 ward teams on a monthly rotational basis in addition to the renal consultant of the week on-call. The successful candidate will be part of the renal registrar on-call rota.

There will be opportunities to see and manage in-patient and out-patient regional referrals in addition to attending specialist out-patient clinics such as vasculitis, advanced kidney care, transplant work-up, live donor work-up, peritoneal dialysis, home haemodialysis and in-centre haemodialysis. When not covering the wards, the successful applicant would be expected to gain experience from participating in General Nephrology and speciality clinics.

We also have multiple research (local and commercial) and QI projects running at any one time. The successful candidate would be expected to be involved in QI and research work.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration or eligibility for full registration with the GMC with licence to practice.
  • MBBS/MBChB Honours
  • MRCP (UK)
Desirable criteria
  • Nephrology SCE
  • Higher degree
  • Other relevant medical awards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in caring for dialysis and vasculitis patients.
  • Experience of working as on-call registrar in medicine
  • Previous experience in clinical research and demonstrates a commitment to research.
  • Experience placing temporary dialysis access catheters
Desirable criteria
  • To have taken up postgraduate training opportunities appropriate to subspecialty interest.
  • Experience of working as renal registrar on-call.
  • Experience performing renal biopsies with limited supervision.
  • Ability to perform temporary dialysis catheters independently.
