Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Surgeon
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
We are seeking a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Hip & Knee Arthroplasty Surgeon to join the team on a permanent basis. You will join a thriving and fully integrated Orthopaedic Directorate comprising currently of 28 Consultants, with a vast amount of skill sets and experience.
LTHTR provides a wide range of emergency and elective Orthopaedic Services, including tertiary services and is the Major Trauma Centre, Regional Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre and Neurosurgical centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
The successful applicant would be expected to take part in developing and delivering the Orthopaedic knee service across the Trust and will be part of the On Call rota for Major Trauma. Currently 1:16 rota.
You must be registered with the GMC on the Specialist Register for Trauma and Orthopaedics (or within 6 months of gaining entry onto) and willing to participate in Teaching and Clinical Governance Provision.
LTHTR is across 2 hospital sites, Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) and Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital (CDH). Although you may need to cover both sites, you will be based at Royal Preston Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in the existing General Trauma and Orthopaedic on call rota. As a Major Trauma Centre, Trauma Surgery at Royal Preston Hospital includes General and Major Trauma cases. Non-spinal Orthopaedic Surgeons are not on call for Spinal Surgery. Spinal Trauma is managed by the Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeons and Neurosurgeons.
This post is 10 PA’s and will have an elective and trauma component.
Due to the fortnightly departmental structure of fracture clinics, mutually cooperative arrangements are in place between Consultant colleagues to facilitate review of patients at one week time intervals, if required.
The successful candidate will be part of an established team, involved in MDT meetings. 1.5 SPA will be provided for revalidation; with job planning there will be opportunity to increase this SPA in line with local guidelines.
There will be appropriate administrative time within the job plan, equivalent to all consultants within the department.
On Call will be provided as a 1:16 cover, providing a ‘hot week’ model 1:8. Elective work will be split between outpatient clinics on both sites and theatres on the Chorley site. Elective work will be five days a week, with on-call commitments spanning seven days a week.
The job plan will be discussed and finalised with the candidate on appointment, but will initially be based on flexible theatre session days.
