Job overview

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Urology Team at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital and Royal Preston Hospital. 

The post is for an initial period of twelve months.

Clinical duties of the post will be to support the Consultant medical staff in the provision of urological services at Preston and Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital.

Applicants should hold a full driving licence as you will be required to commute between both hospital sites.

You will have the opportunity to attend the regular operating sessions with the Clinical Team to assist with major surgery and be trained in basic surgical skills under the close supervision of the Consultant.  You may be expected to assist in the operating sessions of other teams from time to time and co-ordinate, assist with/perform emergency operations.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this post consist of the following:

·       Daily ward round at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital or Royal Preston Hospital

·       Attendance at out-patient clinics at Preston and Chorley.

·       Operating sessions will be determined by the individual’s experience with both supervised in-patient and day case lists in Chorley allowing training in endoscopic, laparoscopic and open pelvic and renal surgery in Preston.

·       This post will be part of the 1 in 7 on-call rota at Registrar/middle grade level covering Preston and Chorley Hospitals.

·       Audit and research activities, participation in teaching and training activities for medical and clinical staff is expected.

·       Assessment of ward referral at Royal Preston and Chorley Hospitals.

·       Providing support to more junior staff eg FY1 and FY2.

·       Weekly programme will typically include 2 clinics, 3 inpatient lists, 1 flexible cystoscopy/diagnostic list and MDTs.

As a teaching hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  We are committed to developing our teaching and academic activities and can facilitate meeting any training needs for these roles. You will be expected to take on the role of educational supervisor for doctors in training attached to the department.

We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Full MRCS

Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in Urology at CT2 / Registrar level
  • Understanding of research methodology and ethics
  • Completion of Basic/Core surgical training rotation
Desirable criteria
  • UK experience in General Surgery / Urology
  • Evidence of peer reviewed publications
  • Laparoscopic training course
