We’re delighted to launch our brand-new Senior Healthcare Assistant Apprentice role and we cannot wait to help you change your future. We are looking for those of you who are:

Your first few weeks will be classroom based whilst you learn all the primary skills needed to do the role and you’ll achieve our bespoke Care Certificate which is embedded into this apprenticeship. We’ll provide all the training needed so when you step out onto the ward/area you are going to work on, you can be confident in your abilities and ability to contribute straight away in the workplace.
Its important we recruit people with the right personal skills & attributes, so our interviews and assessments will be really practically focused, less about interview questions and more about giving you the chance to show us your potential, what you could bring to the role and your willingness to learn.
***Please Note***
As this is an apprenticeship, we can only accept applicants who have had residence within the UK for 3 years or more. Due to funding rules, we can only offer positions for this apprenticeship to candidates who have no experience working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker. Applicants must not hold a level 3 or higher qualification in a healthcare.
Main duties of the job
Being a Senior Healthcare Assistant is a wonderful & really valued role. You will be support the delivery of a range of personal care duties for patients and a will learn to complete a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of registered healthcare professionals including: assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, stoma care, measuring & monitoring patient output, removal of catheters, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens including blood sugars, taking and recording physical measurements observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings, removal of venflons.
Sometimes the role will be tough, you may see and be involved in some difficult things involving our patients, be busy and deliver some very direct personal care. We don’t want to shy away from that and we do know that this part of the role isn’t for everyone, however, for the right people, providing all kinds of support to our patients to meet their needs will be what makes you thrive.

We work on a shift basis as our patients need our care and attention 24 hours a day 7 days a week so everyone gets involved working different shifts to ensure our patients receive the best care. You will usually work a four shift system; early, late, twilight and nights.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Assist the provision of good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
• Present a positive image of self, team and the organisation
• Update patient records in a timely and accurate manner
• Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan.
• Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
• Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
• Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
• Communicate all relevant information to the Registered Nurses in a professional and timely way.
• Maintain and develop own competence
• Assist with resolving issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills at a minimum of Level 1/Grade D/Grade 3
- Willingness to work towards level 2 in numeracy and literacy Functional skills if not already achieved equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills in line with Level 2/Grade A*-C/Grade 4-9
- BNCS or NVQ / Internal Level 2 training programme (To include work-based assessments)
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working in a health care setting
- Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare
- Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in an acute hospital setting
