Volunteer - Hospital Guide

Voluntary

Job overview

When patients or visitors come to our hospitals, they are often nervous or daunted by how big and busy we are so we want to recruit a team of Volunteers to be our new Hospital Guides to help people find their way with ease….this is where you come in.

We are looking for some fantastic people of all  backgrounds to commit to a few hours a week helping us undertake this new initiative. You will need to be over the age of 18, as there will be some times where you will work unsupervised.

We know just how rewarding this will be as you see people relaxing and feeling relieved at a time where its often their most anxious.

Our Hospital Guide will also be particularly beneficial to people who have issues relating to sight, disability, be it physical or learning and those who need support physically with a chair or assistance dog to find their intended location – so we know this role will be very fulfilling for those who choose to undertake it.

Main duties of the job

Based on our main entrances, you will meet, greet and escort people to any department they need to attend /visit, your approachable style helping them feel less nervous or worried along the way.

Your lovely communication approach and friendly demeanour will help put people at ease straight away and you will enjoy supporting them to their destination and even staying with them for the duration of their appointment if needed.

It goes without saying that you’ll have full training to support you in the role and also to help you navigate our hospitals and understand the changes that happen frequently. We will also support you if you want to develop further skills.

You will volunteer for slots on a rota along with other Hospital Guides – this ensures effective cover for as much time as possible – meaning we can help as many people as possible.

You will get to liaise with lots of different people from all walks of life and we know there will never be a dull moment along the way.

Working for our organisation

We have 400 fantastic volunteers working hard to support the services that we deliver to our patients.  As a Trust, we help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Volunteering with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done.  You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means our volunteers are pivotal and something really to be proud of.
