Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated Radiology Health Care Assistants to join the team within the Radiology Department at Wigan Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and to also rotate to the new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Leigh Infirmary and the Wrightington site.

Candidates should have a flexible approach to their working hours as this contract will be flexible across 7 day working and includes multiple sites.

The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

Candidates are required to present original certificates for qualifications at interview stage.  Maths and English GCSE or functional skills is essential.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role is to provide general assistance for Diagnostic Procedures within the Diagnostic Imaging Department,  with a high level of care, assistance and support to patients during their examination.  To perform such duties as will aid the smooth running of the department providing a high level of patient care.

The successful candidates will be required to communicate on a regular basis with all grades of hospital staff throughout the Trust and should therefore have good interpersonal and communication skills.

Applicants should also have good keyboard skills and preferably experience in using basic computer packages, including hospital systems.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide administration support, duties to include, reception duties, receiving telephone calls, booking patients onto the departmental computer system and uploading disks for the Radiologist to report.
  • Provide assistance and support to the radiographers and Consultant Radiologists in the x-ray department.
  • Assist in preparation of imaging rooms prior to Diagnostic examination
  • Assist the medical staff during various clinical examinations and procedures.
  • To have the ability to assist with the organisation of the workload of the department, responding to the needs of the service.
  • Liaise and consult with other wards and departments, to implement or plan patient requirements effectively.
  • The necessity to communicate with various internal and external sources both Clinical and Nonclinical eg: Clinicians, Trust Staff, Directorate Staff, and Patients.
  • Resolving queries from patients, departmental staff and service users.
  • To assist in maintaining a clean and tidy department, in accordance with departmental cleaning protocols.
  • To report any equipment faults or problems to senior staff.
  • Prepare and organise relevant documentation for diagnostic procedures i.e. obtain case notes and administrative forms for speciality examinations.
  • To plan and prioritise own workload to meet service demands.
  • Monitor and request supplies of stock to ensure the efficient running of the department.
  • Book and send out appointments for Diagnostic Procedures and enter onto departmental computer system and into departmental diary.
  • To participate in any departmental research and audits as and when required.
