Job overview
Our team are looking for a motivated individual with a keen interest in breast care, to work within the screening and symptomatic service. We are looking for somebody with Surgical and Oncology Services experience. We provide a wide range of oncoplastic surgical techniques, and work closely with the oncology and research teams.
We are a friendly forward thinking team, working together using a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve the best outcome for our patients.
Main duties of the job
- Provides a specialist, continuing, supportive Breast Care Service within the hospital and community setting, offering optimum healthcare to patients, their families and carers.
- Manages and organises own case load.
- To work along side and support the lead Specialist Breast Care Nurse.
- Provides specialist breast care education, training and imparts sensitive information for patients, their carers and other healthcare professionals, ensuring that patient confidentiality is maintained.

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provides professional clinical leadership, guidance, expert advice and support within the Breast Care Nursing team.
- Provides a specialist, continuing, supportive Breast Care Service within the hospital and community setting, offering optimum healthcare to patients, their families and carers.
- Delivers high quality, evidence based, patient centred care within clearly defined guidelines and protocols, this will improve the patients experience and meet local needs.
- Provides specialist breast care education, training and imparts sensitive information for patients, their carers and other healthcare professionals, ensuring that patient confidentiality is maintained.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First level registered nurse
- Degree/degree pathway in health related subject/willing to work towards
- ENB A11 or equivalent specialist qualification or willingness to work towards
- Teaching qualification/mentorship course or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate counselling skills, experience/qualification.
- Oncology qualification, e.g. ENB237 cancer course or equivalent
- Advanced communication skills
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration proven experience within this clinical speciality.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of participation in outpatient clinics in this specialty.
- Evidence of involvement in policy development /guidelines.
- Experience in clinical audit
- Experience of audit and research
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate potentially unpleasant/ sensitive information to patients in a variety of settings
- Able to influence and overcome resistance through application of advanced communication skills.
- Ability to manage own caseload.
- Ability to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
- Ability to perform relevant clinical skills
- Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues across health and social care setting
